ROLLER SURFACE PROTECTION

SHIPPING/STORAGE CONTAINERS
    • Wooden containers are well suited to protect your roller during shipping and storage.
    • A 2 inch minimum clearance is necessary between the rubber surface of the roller inside and the surface of the container.
    • There should be no nails, screws or other internal projections which could damage the roller covering.
    • Locking journal/shaft supports should be used to ensure that the roller remains suspended.
    • Metal reinforcement is necessary for heavy rolls or rolls which must be transported long distances.

STORAGE
    • Store rollers on journal/shaft supports and in their shipping container whenever possible.
    • The paper covering adds protection and should remain on the roller during storage.
    • Cool, dark, low traffic locations are best.
    • Rollers should not be exposed to ozone, extreme temperatures or humidity.
    • Rollers should never be stored flat on the rubber surface.
    • Rust preventative should be used on shafts of rolls which may be stored for an extensive time.
    • Periodically rotate rolls 180° to eliminate any sagging of rubber.
    • Spare rolls should be placed into service by fifo method.

MAINTENANCE
    • Do not lay tools on or use knives around the roller.
    • Check roller surface often and remove from service as soon as damage or deterioration is observed.

Regrinds might extend the life of the roller.

    • Wash roller after use with proper cleaner as not to damage the cover.
    • Total indicated runout (TIR) can be improved with new bearings or bearings with tighter factory tolerances.

    • If the manufacturer's recommended care and maintenance procedures are followed, maximum service life and efficiency of operation will be achieved.  Failure to follow recommendations of the manufacturer or failure to notify the manufacturer of changes could nullify the warranty.

MOVING OF ROLLER
    • A 12 inch wide strap is recommended for lifting the roller to avoid damage to the cover.
    • Extremely heavy rollers should be lifted with two straps or supports from the journals.
    • Lift the roller from the center to maintain balance.
    • Care should be taken to avoid bumping or knocking of the roller covering.
